An old friend of mine is selling all of her horses. They will be auctioned off (private auction, not a feedlot sale) on April 7th. I'd like to help her sell as many of them privately as possible.
She has hit rough times - she is 75, has cancer and had a heart attack last year. She has been struggling for the last few years and has dramatically downsized her herd from over 40 to around 10.
Most of the horses left have been used as trail string horses and/or lesson horses for kids. They are dead quiet, sweet and in need of good homes. Most are older.
I know this is a long shot but if anyone is looking for a quiet kid's horse or a cheap trail horse, please let me know. I'm working on coming up with a list of horses and their ages - I've done a really rough crack at it below but I'll pop by on Friday and get more details like prices etc. I'm really hoping she will basically give them away.
We're located in Victoria, BC and I'd be willing to trailer up to two horses anywhere along the route that I travel for school - that is, Vancouver to Merritt, Kamloops or Vernon/Salmon Arm area. Alternately, I would be willing to do a roadtrip at least part way, in the summer, if my costs were approximately covered (will pitch in some).
Measurements are approximate. If anyone's interested, I'm happy to do an honest soundness assessment (not a PPE of course) just to give folks an idea of what they're looking at. I'm not a vet but I do lameness assessments all the time and I'd hate to see a FiSHie get an unsound horse. Happy to get the assessment on video too if you like.
Rodeo - mid teens 16ish hand percheron/TB gelding - dead quiet, great on trails, fun, safe jumper for an intermediate rider (maybe a beginner, I'll have to check) black bay and has a beautiful white marking on his face that looks like South America. Handsome boy.
Strauss - early 20s 16ish hh TB, dark/black bay - quiet on the trails - not sure about his soundness for arena work. He really needs love and attention - he's been ignored for a long long time.
Starbucks - mid 20s 14.3 ish (he's a horse most days) mustang X, bright bay - cute as a button, kid's horse but with pony attitude - needs a confident child on the ground but not necessarily an experienced rider - countless wins at the dinky local shows. Chunky little bastard. I love this horse. He may get adopted locally (I hope)
Heidi - late teens black appy pony (no spots) 13-14hh she has been used as a lesson horse and is a great ride for a kid. I've worked on her a fair bit lately and she seems to be in pretty good shape.
Dawson - quiet, mid 20s QH gelding, bright chestnut with a white blaze and a freckle. Dawson is sweet as pie and totally quiet on trails and in the ring but is developing a sway back so he will not likely have many years left of riding soundness. Would make a JOYFUL companion horse, gets along with everyone and is a pleasure to have around. He is free due to age and potential for unsoundness. If she can't find a home for him, I might take him for the summer and put him down next fall.
Bacchus - needs an experienced hand. Beautiful TB/Perch gelding, black, 16ish hh and tons of bone but well proportioned. I think he's 10 or 11 and originally came from auction. He'd been really mishandled and his current owner has had him started but he's still complicated and very very green and fearful. Needs a patient, quiet training home. I believe he is free to an experienced home.
Springer - early 20s chestnut 15.2ish QH mare. Quiet, willing, kind school horse - jumped and won at countless local shows with kids aboard.
