I have 2 different trainers that I respect a lot. They have the same style in that they offer lots of praise when a horse does what's right, are never mean or cruel, but also don't put up with any nonsense. But they also have different styles in what they focus on first with a horse. This is simplistic and just my take on things, but, for example, Trainer A will ask for a correct headset FIRST, then work on transitions. Trainer B will work on transitions and then start asking for the headset. They both get to the same place and they've each ridden the "work" the other has done.
Do you think it's confusing to use 2 different trainers? Remember, we're not training for a certain discipline, breed, showing, etc. We just want Cheddar to be as well-trained and exposed to as many things as possible. But he's the first horse we've been able to really try to do things "right" with. I messed up Holly so much because 1) we went through some crappy trainers initially, and 2) I was such a mess on her. I want to do it right with Cheddar...
So...stick with one trainer only? Or would it be good for him to spend some time with the other? I'm not talking about one week here, one week there. More like sending him to the other trainer for 30 or 60 days then bringing him back home to this trainer....I could even ask the out of town trainer to focus on things that Cheddar doesn't get here...like more trail time, more time with other horses, etc.
