As I've said no intact dog on property besides her and none of the neighbours on nearby properties even have a dog. This is the second time I've stated that. Either way, thank you everyone for your opinions.

Be honest though, is it a money issue? Spays aren't generally cheap. With her being loose at a barn, don't be shocked if there is an oops litter sooner rather than later.

In those females spayed prior to their first heat cycle, mammary cancer is very, very rare. The risk of malignant mammary tumors in dogs spayed prior to their first heat is 0.05%. It is 8% for dog spayed after one heat, and 26% in dogs spayed after their second heat. It is believed that the elimination or reduction of certain hormonal factors causes the lowering of incidence of the disease in dogs that have been spayed. These factors would probably be estrogen, progesterone, a similar hormone or possibly a combination of two or more of these. http://www.peteducation.c...cle.cfm?c=2+1638&aid=460 Took me about 2 seconds to find it.

This is believable , six foot fence sounds more likely to be honest , cause who has nine foot fences in their backyard? My grandmother had a bitch break through a leather lead to get at a stray intact male she wanted as a baby-daddy. Only time we've ever had an oops litter. Sometimes, shit happens. This is a bit of a stretch to believe , and by a bit , I mean a lot. Had there actually been concern about the oops litter and the over population , the dog would of been spayed immediately to prevent the oops litter.I can't believe there are STILL fishies who have intact dogs that are not good quality breeding stock. FFS fix your damn dogs people.Because early spaying and neutering isn't everything its made out to be. The statistics are all extremely flawed , and in the case of large breeds down right damaging to their health. It is more then possible to have intact dogs that never have a health issue , and never are bred.

I am just cautious to leap to a decision based on one person's comment without evidence to back it up. I've also heard that if you spay before their first heat you reduce the risk of breast cancer by 50% but after the second heat there's no chance. My point is that a lot of people throw statistics out without actual scientific proof. She's not a breeding animal (nor quality) so rest assured that's not the reason at all why she isn't spayed. I know several dogs spayed and then having incontinence issues as well as losing their personality (become a lout just subdued and laying around) that I haven't jumped on the spay train just yet. However she WILL eventually be spayed just not yet, her hips are more of a concern than her uterus at the moment to grab my attention. For now I'm being responsible in that. She's not unsupervised around strange dogs or in an area with them. And thanks to those who replied with their thoughts, very helpful I've owned spayed female dogs my entire life, never had an overweight dog, or had one become a subdued lout, they had plenty of personality (some too much) and never had one that was incontinent so if we are using anectodotal evidence there's mine.

Just can't say I know of any residences that have one that high , businesses - sure. What can happen if your dog isnt speutered? The same if it is.Dogs don't just walk by each other and puppies are made , it takes irresponsible and lazy owners for it to happen. Just to be clear , I'm not against spaying and neutering at all , what I am against is the fear mongering that comes with it.

She "digs" the carpet for a full minute-minute and a half before she lies down. I don't mean one paw scrape, scrape, scrape. I mean both paws going to town as if she's trying to get to china. I had a duffle bag of old clothes in my room that she actually got into and dug them OUT of the bag onto the floor in a pile. Then proceeded to dig around in them before lying ontop. She has a foam matt downstairs she loves lying on, and since this weird habit escalated she digs like a fiend at that too before lying down. She's usually amazing at the barn but has now become a holy terror. I can usually let her off on her own and she'll stick on property or just explore the barn. Now she goes into empty stalls and digs HUGE holes in each corner of the stalls. Sometimes she lies in the hole and sometimes she moves on to the next corner/stall. Short of tying her up, she'll go off to do it again regardless of being reprimanded. We have dirt banked up along the barn because it's set a little lower in the ground so the banked dirt prevents flooding. She's now been trying to dig holes in that banked dirt which is a big no-no.
