So today I was job-shadowing a small animal veterinarian to see what it's like. First off - no freaking wonder they go to school so long - not only are
there like a bajillion species of dogs and cats that differ, they are morticians, doctors, and dentists. And all that equipment. It was really cool though. The
first thing we did was look at a dog that had died overnight (he had had a surgery the day before), then there were three dental surgeries (mostly cleaning and
then on dog had EIGHT extractions), two dogs came in with collapsed hind ends. I sat with one, petting her (she was SO sweet) while they put the other one
down. The one I sat with was still there and they took xrays and stuff. They put another cat down because of bladder/that area issues. I got to hold a Doxon
while they clipped his toenails, and I went in with the vet to do those little check up/vaccination/appointments. We didn't stop for the whole time I was
there. It was awesome!
I have to say I REALLY admire those people. It's NUTS. Dealing with animals, their owners....It's insane. I don't think it's going to be the career for me (at least not a full fledged vet) but wow. It was an experience.
