If you read my other thread, you'd see I was finally getting my 19 yr old, real hard keeping TB out of the clutches of a bad barn. After this weekend,
I'll have full control over what he eats, and when. I want to give him the best chance to gain, so here's the info on him so you guys can help me with
my shopping list:
a. Teeth have been done. He still has a slight "wave"--will have to be fixed gradually.
b. Worming is updated.
c. He's been fed three large scoops (30ish cups) of standard pelleted feed mixed with two cups senior feed & one cup oil and vaious joint supplements and vitamins ONCE a day (and sometimes not on weekends), with shitty grass hay morning and night. This keeps his holding at about a 2.5 or 3 on the body index score--he has not gained on this diet (that's why I left my old barn!!)
d. has been thoroughly checked out at the biggest vet hospital in the state. Full internal ultrasound, rectal, blood panel, all normal.
Okay, this is what he has been fed and what I have done. I am moving to a barn with 2X day feeding and better hay. What, in your opinion, should I feed and what supplements should I add for the best chance of weight gain? I am shopping Sat.
