I posted before about my concern that my horse's hooves had been trimmed too short and were causing him to feel off when I was riding. I went out today and
did another check of his hooves and legs, and I'm very glad I did. I found his hind left to be swollen. No heat, but definitely more swollen from the ankle
up to his hock. I had my mom and the BM check and they both felt the swelling aswell, so now the question is treatment. The BO/my trainer, wants me to buy
poultice for it, but the BM had said that it wouldn't need poultice because there's no heat and I've always thought that poultice was to prevent or
draw out heat on a recent injury and that you actually use heat to treat an older injury(it must have happened sometime on Thursday)? The BM had mentioned
putting something else on it, then wrapping it but I think she'll end up doing the poultice like my trainer said. I don't want to buy it though, if
it's not the right treatment for it. What would be the best way to treat it, is the poultice right?
I don't actually think it's that serious an injury, he doesn't move like he's lame or in alot of pain, he seems to be standing on it fine and not resting it too much more than his other legs. If the swelling isn't down by Monday, then we'll be bringing in the vet.
