I have a 21 y/o mare who lost a lot of weight in about two weeks in April when she cracked a molar in half, and we've spent the rest of the summer getting her back where she belongs. She's now at the right weight and has loads of energy, a great coat and good feet. The problem? I'm not sure what to feed her to maintain her current weight.
Right now, she's eating (per day) 15-17 pounds of grass hay, five quarts of Tribute Kalm Ultra, three quarts of alfalfa pellets, four ounces of the Dumor weight builder from TSC, a probiotic, a selenium + vitamin E supplement, Sand Clear, two ounces of Cocosoya (gradually swapping the weight builder for the Cocosoya) and Lixotinic.
All feed is soaked. Teeth have been done and the vet ran bloodwork and everything checked out except for mild anemia (hence the Lixotinic). Vet recommended the probiotic, Sand Clear and Lixotinic. The weight builder and Lixotinic will go away as soon as the containers are empty.
Previously, she was a pretty easy keeper and was on about 15 pounds of grass hay per day with two quarts of oats and a selenium + vitamin E supplement. Any suggestions to get us on a more reasonable feeding menu again?
