Barn owner had called her in a panic saying there was blood everywhere and pony was flailing and unable to get up. CK called the vet and headed to the barn.Apparently sometime after breakfast, Raven went down and then was unable to get up. In her flailing around, she bashed her head against the ground several times, causing wounds on her face and in her mouth/gums. That was where the blood was coming from. She was down only on one side and the ground where she was lying was ice, due to her body heat melting the snow. Her body temp was pretty low, and it took 4 people to get her up and steady enough on her feet to walk to the barn. Once in a stall, they got several blankets and coolers on her and set her up with an IV of warmed saline and glucose as well as steroids and another med. During this time, she was very interested in eating hay, but was prevented from getting to it so the IV line would stay put and the fluids would run in. Apparently, she attempted to pitch a fit, thinking she was stronger than she was, over not being able to reach the hay and went down in the stall again. Once they got her back on her feet, things began to improve steadily. When CK last called me on her way home from the barn, she was stable. Temp was normal and she was down to one cooler under a blanket. She was eating hay and had been given a couple of handfuls of grain with some salt and Calf Manna added. She will be kept stalled, with extra shavings, for probably a week or so to gain strength. Rook is doing well, gaining weight. She will be brought in at night and allowed to go out to the ponies' paddock during the day. That's what I know so far. Raven is my favorite of the 2, so naturally, I am pulling for her to get through this and stop running up the vet bills. CK has already threatened to send me the vet bills, since I like to refer to her as "my" pony Hopefully she will stay on her feet and begin gaining weight and strength now. Rook will still have her scheduled tooth float and Xrays and vacs tomorrow. Raven's will be on hold, due to her more weakened condition.CK is resting up after a very long and stressful morning/afternoon of keeping pony on her feet, slogging through snow, spending money, and worrying that she might lose one of the 2 beautiful ponies we are all growing so fond of.

You might want to get her bedding deep and banked right up round the sides to help in case she gets cast again. Does your vet have a sling hoist you can borrow to keep her from going down and risking pneumonia?
