As most of you know, I made the decision to put Hunk down in late January. After a brief, severe illness, he foundered, and it progressed to the point of no reasonable return after three months of agonizing ups and downs. It's been a difficult few months coping with the loss. I never really had the heart to make a memorial thread, as the pain is still pretty fresh. Today would have been his 12th birthday, and coincidentally, APHA mailed his papers back to me with a condolence letter and a printout of his show record. My heart is aching today. I really miss him. He was never the perfect horse for me, but he was my buddy. He was the first horse I owned fully, and the best show partner I could have asked for. He was full of personality and always challenged me to be a better rider. I miss being able to kiss his pink nose, and the way he'd whinny so quietly under his breath when he saw a friend he knew. I learned so much in the short time we had together, and I'll never forget the fun we shared.
