I need some..adivce? maybe.
I have been thinking it over for awhile..
I would like to get a green broke young horse, something that has a few rides under its belt but not enough to have any 'bad habits'. I am 19 and have ridden since I was 8 a whole mixture of horses. All have had habits that I have tried to break them out of but they all have been older horses set in their ways.
My only problem is that yes ive been riding for so long but I don't consider myself an expert. And wonder if I should just quit the idea and get somethings that's broke and deal with it. I am level headed and don't rush things, even with well educated horses. I have ridden some 'green' broke part Arabians..one OTT Thoroughbred but he was fairly quiet.
I havent had a riding lesson in my life and am thinking that perhaps this is a negative thing. A friend of mine, who also had never had a lesson, got a standard bred who had had a few races but was then broken and given to her. I watched her train him from day 1 and they developed such a bond that I swore they spoke to each other. She taught him manners, never gave up on his bad days and had fun on the good days. And while I had had my own mare longer I didn't feel I had that same bond, my mare was 16 and she never listened to me like my friends horse did.
I would love to have that but I second guess myself a lot. Will I be experienced enough to deal with a green horse? What if I teach him bad manners? What if I 'reck' him.
I want to get something that's drafter or QH X…something that's not 'hot headed' Green broke Arabs are too toey and have steered me away.
While I wont be getting one any time soon, I have to get some money behind me for 'mishaps' I just want to know whether I am chasing the wrong dream or I just go for it and try my hand at 'training'??
